Dilbert Comic Offers Career Advice To Younger Students

Since it’s Friday, I thought this might be worth sharing. In today’s Dilbert comic, Carol and Dilbert (if you’re a regular reader, you know the characters) are chatting. She asks about the future career potential for her son and, well, it’s not looking good.
As you can see, the future is sort of grim for younger students right now. While their potential jobs may not be taken by robots, there’s a good chance many of the current careers won’t be around in the next 15 or so years. So with that being said, teachers and students are having to act like fortune tellers trying to predict which skills they should focus on in order to ensure the best possible future.
Will that future be controlled by robots and we’ll be faced with some sort of Will Smith-y I, Robot future or perhaps we’ll all just be in a spaceship like in WALL-E? I have no clue but I do know this Dilbert comic struck a bit too close to home for my comfort.
What do you think? Are today’s students focusing on the right skills to ensure they have a proper career when they graduate? Is Dilbert wrong? Would love to hear your insight!
